Heartbroken burglar in Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court
Repeat burglar in court after committing a crime spree across Stoke-on-Trent
A young burglar who went on a six week burglary spree following the breakdown of his relationship has been jailed after appearing in Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
The 21-year-old father, named as Joshua Woolley, took to crime when he and his girlfriend broke up. Woolley was short on money and had no where to live; he decided to burgle properties to get some quick cash.
Over a period of six weeks between January and March this year, Woolley targeted 14 premises. February 13 and 18, he broke into a residential garage and stole items to the value of £3,000. On March 6, he smashed into a parked lorry and stole a chain saw worth £540.
Woolley was caught by police on January 23 while driving a Ford Focus in Tunstall. He was breathalyzed and found to be significantly over the limit. He was released on bail but was seen driving just two weeks later; he avoided capture but was caught out by CCTV.
The young defendant appeared in Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court charged with a number of offences, including burglar, drink driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop following an accident and failing to attend bail.
He was jailed for 18-months and banned for driving for the same period of time.
